Thermosyphon with a nano-coated evaporator surface

Motivation

Thermal engineering apparatuses are of outstanding importance for the energy transition. With the current scarcity and rising costs of primary energy sources, the need to exploit previously unavailable reservoirs of renewable thermal energy is also increasing. The demand among users for access to such systems and for improving their efficiency is noticeable across all sectors of the economy.

There is a growing demand for systems that enable the recovery of thermal energy at small temperature differences and low temperature levels.

Project objective

The objective of the project is to increase the performance of thermosyphons through in-situ coating of evaporator surfaces.

Solution approach

  • Characterization of the relationship between the working fluid and the structure of the coating.
  • Alternative approach using applied lattice or mesh structures.
