At ILK Dresden, state-of-the-art specialized laboratories enable us to conduct advanced research in the fields of materials science, cryogenics, hydrogen, life sciences, acoustics, and fluid flow. We are also accredited to perform measurement, testing, and analysis services for both research and industry.
Accredited laboratories
Heat Pump Testing Laboratory - PLWP Test Center
The ILK Dresden Accredited Heat Pump Testing Center is accredited by DAkkS and supports heat pump manufacturers in quality assurance through impartial, standards-based testing at specified operating points. We offer verification testing for heat pumps to confirm their efficiency within the framework of state-recognized test certificates (EHPA seal of approval and HP-KEYMARK).
Testing Laboratory for Emissions, Boilers, and Vacuum Cleaners/Dust Collectors
Take advantage of legally compliant and independent testing at our testing laboratory, which is accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018. As a measurement facility under Section 29b of the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), we offer standards-compliant testing of emissions, boilers, vacuum cleaners, and dust collectors—all from a single source.
Chemical and Physical Laboratories
Our chemical and physical laboratories for analytics and materials engineering offer specialized infrastructure for physical and chemical analysis in the automotive, refrigeration, and air conditioning sectors. We assist companies in the development, qualification, and validation of components, materials, and refrigerant systems.

Other Laboratories
Hydrogen Laboratory and Methane Test Site
ILK Dresden operates an innovative test facility for hydrogen technology and methane for cryogenic high-pressure applications. It enables fundamental research on LH2 and LNG in liquid, gaseous, and supercritical states. Component testing and qualification are conducted at temperatures ranging from 10 K to room temperature and pressures up to 1,000 bar. In addition, components for energy storage and hydrogen systems are being further developed, including recooling systems, latent heat storage units, heat exchangers, and cryogenic pump systems.
Possible research areas include
- Analysis of hydrogen storage system charging and discharging processes
- Development of new high-density hydrogen storage technologies
- Component testing, such as valve tests and cryosorption pumps
Helium Infrastructure
A state-of-the-art infrastructure is available for testing systems designed for cryogenic applications using liquid helium. The test facility enables the compression, liquefaction, and recovery of helium, as well as extensive testing of components and measurement systems. An integrated gas purification system and re-liquefaction technology ensure the sustainable use of helium as a resource.
S1 Laboratory for Biology
The Life Sciences division encompasses biological and medical research, with a particular focus on the development and testing of biomaterials and tissue engineering. The laboratory is equipped with cell culture techniques, cryopreservation and biobanking technologies, as well as testing systems for material properties and transport safety.
Acoustics Laboratory
The acoustics laboratory, which includes a reverberation chamber, enables acoustic measurements in accordance with DIN EN ISO standards, sound analyses, and studies on machine dynamics and noise optimization.
Filter Testing Laboratory
The filter testing laboratory determines typical performance data for air filters and filter devices of various shapes and types designed to capture particles and gases.
For contract and project research, several test benches are available that cover a wide performance range and can be flexibly adapted to the specific measurement task. The laboratory is equipped with comprehensive dosing and measurement technology for a wide variety of air pollutants.
Aerodynamics Laboratory
The laboratory enables airflow analysis, thermodynamic measurements, and PIV studies under controlled conditions. It supports the development of energy-efficient ventilation and air conditioning systems.
