Prof. Uwe Franzke, Dr. Valerius Venzik

During an extended transition period, he will manage the institute’s operations jointly with the current managing director, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Franzke.

With this succession plan, ILK Dresden is proactively managing the transition in the institute’s leadership. The joint management structure allows for a gradual handover of responsibilities and ensures the transfer of knowledge. At the same time, long-standing relationships with partners in academia, industry, and the public sector are maintained.

In various leadership roles at Viessmann, Venzik was responsible for international research and development structures and led organizational units with up to 160 employees. In these roles, he was responsible for project budgets in the tens of millions. Most recently, he focused in particular on model-based development, organizational development, and improving efficiency in systems development.

In addition to his industry experience, Venzik brings a strong academic background to the table. After earning his degree in mechanical and plant engineering with a specialization in energy and process engineering, he received his Ph.D. in technical thermodynamics from the University of Duisburg-Essen, graduating summa cum laude. His technical expertise includes, among other things, thermodynamics, conventional and renewable energy technology, high-temperature heat pumps, thermal storage, and modeling and simulation.

“I’m looking forward to this new role and the challenges it brings,” says Venzik.

Drawing on his academic and industrial experience, Venzik will help further expand ILK Dresden’s expertise and, together with partners from academia and industry, tap into new fields of research and technology. This succession plan, prepared well in advance, lays the foundation for a smooth transition and the institute’s long-term development.
