Task
The combination of glazing and sunshades has a significant impact on energy consumption and thermal comfort in buildings. To describe these components, VDI Guideline 6007, Part 2 provides an algorithm that can be used to calculate relevant performance metrics (e.g., total solar energy transmittance, heat transfer coefficient).
Areas of expertise
The aim of this project is first to familiarize oneself with the algorithm specified in VDI 6007 Part 2. Subsequently, an existing Visual Basic program is to be ported to Python and expanded so that window combinations with any number of layers (previously a maximum of three) can be modeled. In addition, typical product data for glazing and sunshade systems will be researched and used for sample calculations. Among other things, the position of the sunshade (inside, outside) can be varied.
The scope and specific focus of the project can be adjusted.
Qualifications
Basic programming skills are required to perform this work. Knowledge of heat transfer is a plus.
Notes
Since our internships and the supervision of student projects are primarily intended to provide practical experience and career guidance, we ask for your understanding that no compensation is provided. However, we would be happy to issue you a formal internship certificate and nominate your student project for the annual academic award presented by the Association for the Promotion of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology (Verein zur Förderung der Luft- und Kältetechnik e.V.).
