Task

As part of the project “Cryogenic Electronics for Highly Sensitive SQUID Readout  (ICEQ),” intensive research into the development of cryogenic electronics will be conducted at ILK Dresden.

The goal is to develop and demonstrate low-noise, energy-efficient readout electronics for SQUID sensors that can be operated entirely within the cryogenic range of the SQUID sensor.

Target parameters:

Noise level: < 5 fT / √Hz

Sensitivity: pT to fT

Thermal drift: 30 nV / K

Dynamic range: > 120 dB

Electronics bandwidth: 100 kHz to 50 MHz

Feedback: Phase-stable (FLL)

Areas of expertise

  • Research on component analysis
  • Design of potential cryogenically compatible components for SQUID readout circuits
  • Development of cryogenically compatible SQUID readout circuits
  • Testing of readout circuits at room temperature
  • Integration and testing of the circuits at 77 K
  • Characterization of noise behavior, bandwidth, and linearity at 77 K
  • Construction of a demonstrator for readout at temperatures between 30 and 60 K (typical for the first stage of cryocoolers) of a real SQUID operated at 4.2 K
  • Testing of the demonstrator at temperatures between 30 and 60 K using a SQUID cooled to 4.2 K and shielded
  • Characterization of noise behavior, bandwidth, and linearity between 30 and 60 K
  • Determination of voltage slew rate and voltage noise between 30 and 60 K

Qualifications

  • Degree in electrical engineering, physics, or cryogenics
  • A solid understanding of electronic components is required
  • Proficiency in English or German is required
  • A reliable and responsible work ethic is essential, particularly with regard to compliance with safety measures.
  • The ability to work actively, independently, and in a goal-oriented manner is expected
  • The ability to communicate objectively and in a goal-oriented manner, both verbally and in writing, is expected

Notes
