Areas of application

Testing of cooking fume extractors with collection surfaces up to 2000 mm × 1000 mm and airflow rates up to 1,200 m³/h in accordance with EN IEC 61591, also applicable to downdraft systems.

Objective

Testing grease separation performance is one of the requirements for classifying cooking fume extractors in accordance with the EN IEC 61591 testing standard. The test rig also allows for the testing of large range hoods and, with an extension module, downdraft systems.

Description

The test rig for cooking fume extractors is used to determine grease separation at the operating point of the range hoods in accordance with DIN EN IEC 61591. The test rig allows for measurements up to 1200 m³/h and accommodates even larger range hoods. An optional second test chamber enables the testing of downdraft systems. The test bench was developed at ILK Dresden based on the results of basic research into the droplet size distributions of cooking fumes using phase-doppler anemometry. It allows for the testing of range hoods with capture areas up to 2000 mm wide and 1000 mm deep. The installation space can be enlarged upon request.
