Coldest place ever measured in the world – official cold record

Even though Antarctica is not one of the top destinations for winter sports, many people are drawn to the coldest continent, which is always covered in snow. Numerous research stations study topics such as marine biology, glaciology, and meteorology there.

On July 21, 1983, the coldest temperature ever recorded was measured at the Russian research station “Vostok” at −89.2°C.

However, this record has been broken several times unofficially. With the help of satellites, the surface temperature can be analyzed and evaluated in places where there are no weather stations. According to NASA, these values resulted in a new cold record of −93.2 °C. This is said to have been reached on the eastern plateau of Antarctica on August 10, 2010.

The satellite measurement is not generally accepted, which is why the first value of −89.2 °C continues to be considered the official cold record.
