Air cleaners can reduce the risk of infection. However, an infection cannot be preempted completely.
An experts‘ recommentation, which was introduced in September 2021, defines the standards for mobile air cleaning devices: VDI-EE 4300 Blatt 14:2021-09 „Measurement of indoor pollution - Requirements for mobile air purifiers to reduce aerosol-borne transmission of infectious diseases“. It focuses on the performance of air cleaning devices regarding the elimination of viruses from the air of a room, and applies to devices which work with filtration, UV-C radiation or ionization/plasma.
The recommendation was compiled due to the current pandemic situation by the VDI/DIN Commission of Air Quality Control together with the VDI Society Constructing and Building Technology, and is exclusively available at Beuth.

Indoor-Air | Frankfurt am Main: „The importance of ventilation technology has become clear since the beginning of the pandemic. Mobile air cleaning devices can be understood as bridge technology in combination with window ventilation or bad ventilation systems, so that the risk of infection inside of rooms can be reduced. Crucial for risk mitigation is the CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate). The CADR stands for the efficieny of an air cleaning device, based on room size and the volume of clean air generated per minute.

Various associations from around the globe have thought about how measures to reduce the risk of infection can be taken and supported with the help of ventilation technology. Here, we have compiled some of their assessments. External sources may not necessarily reflect our opinion and we do not take responsibility for any of these statements.
