CFE-Test

New Software "CFE-Test" for Energy Efficiency Evaluation of Cooker Hoods According to IEC 61591:2023

The ILK (Institute for Air and Refrigeration Technology) is developing new software for the energy efficiency evaluation of Cooking Fume Extractors, which will be available from the second quarter of 2025. The "CFE-Test" software (Cooking Fume Extractors, CFE) meets the requirements of IEC 61591:2023 as well as the corresponding EU directive.

Key Features of the New Software

The "CFE-Test" software offers numerous features to optimize and accelerate testing processes. The key features include:

  • Recording of all relevant measurement values
  • Automatic selection of the most appropriate pressure sensor
  • Control of auxiliary fan and throttle device
  • Online display of measurement curves during the test process
  • Export of measurement and calculation values in a file, e.g., for Excel
  • Automatic calculation of characteristic values and conversion of measurement data to reference conditions

Main Changes in IEC 61591:2023

One of the most significant changes is the introduction of the 9-point method for creating the energy efficiency label. This method forms the basis for evaluating the energy efficiency of cooker hoods, as illustrated in the following graphic.

Additionally, a new energy efficiency label has been introduced, which displays information such as annual energy consumption and noise levels of the hood.

Availability and Compatibility

The "CFE-Test" software is expected to be available from the second quarter of 2025. It integrates seamlessly into existing test benches and can also be used to evaluate existing measurement data. The test reports will comply with the new requirements of IEC 61591:2023.
