Innovative cold storage system presented by the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK) at annual CHP congress

News from the field of trigeneration

3646

A vacuum-liquid ice technology will be presented at the annual BTTP (block-type thermal power station) congress in Dresden. The optimized storability of cold improves the opportunities of a more flexible trigeneration.

On May 7th and 8th 2019, the annual BTTP conference will be held for the 17th time. Among others, some extraordinary projects from the fields of object, quarter and district heating supply will be presented in the framework of altogether 17 speeches. Among these are cogeneration and trigeneration projects which use cold water storage and ice storage to cache certain amounts of energy.

Within the frame of an accompanying exhibition to the annual BTTP congress, the Institute for Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK Dresden) will present a new storage technology in the field of trigeneration.

At the congress itself, the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK Dresden) will present a vacuum-liquid ice technology which has been awarded the German Refrigeration Award. On the basis of common heat-driven sorption refrigerators (cold water), a pumpable water-ice-mixture with a high energy density is created. On one hand this allows to store the cold well and on the other hand it allows the flexibilization of trigeneration. The operation of BTTPs and refrigeration can be uncoupled time-wise. Moreover, new possibilities of usage for trigeneration in the field of process and food cooling can be discovered with the help of liquid ice. Ice producers in a performance range from 60 kilowatts to 1.000 kilowatts can be funded with an investment grant by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) / Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA).
