EAW Energy Facility Construction, cooperation partner of the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK), wins Thuringian Energy Efficiency Award 2018

The new absorption refrigeration system WEGRACAL

In the new development WEGRACAL Maral, volume and weight are significantly reduced compared to conventional water-lithium bromide absorption refrigeration systems. This is achieved by a fundamentally new heat exchanger technology and sprinkler systems. The compact construction offers completely new opportunities of integrating these refrigeration systems in one’s own production and of combining them for example with block-type thermal power stations. With this innovation, EAW, together with the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK), was able to win the second prize at the German Refrigeration Award 2018.

Together with its partner, the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK) has been doing research and working on further developments of absorption refrigeration systems for many years in order to increase the application radius of the systems on the one hand and to improve their efficiency on the other hand.

Now both cooperation partners could carry off the laurels on a regional level for their joint development and were awarded by the Thuringian Energy and GreenTech Agency (ThEGA).

Twenty-three Thuringian municipalities, enterprises and initiatives had applied for the Thuringian Energy Efficiency Award 2018. A jury of experts from science and economy had chosen six nominated projects from all the applications. Out of these projects, three award recipients and special prize winners were selected in the award ceremony in Erfurt on November 7, 2018. The awardees received 4.000 Euros each. 3.000 Euros go to the special prize winner.

The Thuringian Energy Corporation is the main sponsor of the award. the competition is supported by the Thuringian Ministry for the Environment. Prof. Dieter Sell, Managing Director of ThEGA: „The Thuringian Energy Efficieny Award honours enterprises and institutions, which with new ideas, technical innovations and a consequent implementation of energy-saving measures strengthen their own competitiveness, protect the environment and secure Thuringia as a location for businesses.“
